INVESTIGATING THE INTEGRATION OF OPEN EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES (OERSS) IN LIBRARY COLLECTIONS FOR OPEN AND DISTANCE LEARNING IN NIGERIA: CASE STUDY MODIBBO ADAMA UNIVERSITY YOLA
Abstract
This paper examines the integration of open educational resources (OERs) in library collections for open and distance learning in Nigeria: Case study Modibbo Adama University Yola. The research design adopted for this study was a quantitative survey. The population for the study comprised 111 library staff of Modibbo Adama University Yola. The sampling technique employed for the study is a census (Total enumeration). The study found that the OERs integration in library collections for open and distance learning in Modibbo Adama University Yola was low. The study also revealed that benefits and opportunities of integrating OERs in Modibbo Adama University Yola was very high. Finally, the study found that lack of awareness and understanding of OERs among library staff and library users is the most prevailing challenge to the integration of OERs in the institution. The study, therefore, recommends that the institution should prioritize awareness-raising efforts and provide comprehensive training programs for faculty, library staff, and students on the benefits and effective utilization of Open Educational Resources (OERs). The institution should actively foster collaboration and resource-sharing initiatives among educational institutions, libraries, and relevant stakeholders in Nigeria. Institutions should actively engage stakeholders in policy development and implementation processes to ensure buy-in and relevance.
