VIRTUAL ACCESS TO OPEN EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES: WHAT IS THE PLACE OF THE LIBRARY?

Abstract


This paper provided evidence on the Virtual Access to Open Educational Resources: What is the Place of the Library? Virtual Access to Open Educational Resources plays a role in Library to deal with the challenges change bring in libraries especially as it relates to their rules and regulations. The paper identifies the Open educational resources (OERs) as the educational resources available within the online public domain and which can be accessed and used without any restrictions or costs placed on it. The usage of OER has highly enhanced the quality of education in Nigeria. With the advent of Ibadan school library digital resources system (ISLDRS), teachers and students can access school library with the use of computers, tablets, or smart mobile devices which is designed with an easy- to-use platform in order for teachers and students to easily search and retrieve content. The paper highlighted that, there is no doubt that Nigeria is facing a lot of challenges in accessing internet to get relevant educational materials, without mincing words, the school library system will have positive impact on the quality of education in Nigeria. The paper recommended that Internet and computer skills must be made mandatory to keep teachers and students in the right and proper pedestrian and government should be included in the budgets of funds that promote the purchase of ICT applications in the libraries.
