DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF AN ONLINE ADMISSION SYSTEM FOR ABIA STATE COLLEGE OF EDUCATION (TECHNICAL), AROCHUKWU

Abstract

Presently, Abia State College of Education (Technical) Arochukwu admits students manually. The manual admission system is expensive and does not lead to the admission of large number of students. To this end, the researchers set out to develop an online admission system. The developmental effort began with the examination of the manual admission process as well as materials related to the admission. The knowledge gained from this phase help the researchers in formulating both functional and non-functional requirements of the new system. Microsoft visual studio, XAMPP, phpMyAdmin and fireworks tools were used as development tools. The online admission system was implemented using html, PHP, CSS and Javascript web technologies. With the developed online admission system in place, admin or admission officer can add, view, update, delete and print admission records. A prospective student on the other hand can apply for admission, view admission list and print his or her admission letter. The developed admission was tested by 14 students of Abia State College of Education (Technical)Arochukwu. The result of the testing showed that the developed system is effective and efficient. Based on these results, the students recommended the used of the developed online admission system in the College for admission purposes.
